Writing in December of the American copper industry, Messrs Mailler and Quereau say:—“ It was thought when the _ price reached 15 cents per pound, which is the cost of production at the present time, that it would not go lower, but the demand has been so very small that some of the companies have been compelled to sell, and considerable Quantities have been disposed of ,as low as 13 cents per pound. The result of this is that very many of the copper mines are closing, oven some of the larger ones, and will not re-open until prices improve.”
