A RUN WITH THE HOUNDS,

PRINCE HAS A SPILL.

A GOOD DAY'S SPORT.

(Peb United Press Association.) CHRISTOHURCH, May 21.

The Prince of Wales to-day spent some time in a pleasant run -with tho hounds, as the guest of the Canterbury Hunt Club, at the initial meet of the club lor the season at Charing Cross. The day was beautifully fine, with brilliant sunshine and a -fresh westerly breeze to add zest to the enjoyment of the outing. His Royal Highness motored out to the rendezvous at Charing Cross, and was mot by the members of the club, and after lunch pot quickly to work. About 100 ladies and gentlemen followed the pack, and a large number-of people in motor cars watched the run from the roads running through the* flat country, which was intersected by many low, gorse fences, which afforded excellent obstacles to test tho equestrian capacity' of the hunters. Mr J. H. Selby was the huntsman, and the pack picked up the scent quickly. The first run, which was a short, sharp one, ended in a kill in the roadway, right in view of tho spectators, a quarter of an hour after tho start. Tho Prince was mounted on Miss Richards's nobby, brown cob Clinker, and was in at the death, in spite of the fact that ho had come to earth unceremoniously at one fence, Vliere tho horSe hesitated on the far side of tho obstacle he had cleared, and made a half-hearted jump at tho second clump of furze, and then altered his mind, while tho Royal rider, moving on in tho spirit of his mount's first intention, slid lightly to earth. . He -was quickly in the saddle again, however, and joined in tho leading divisions, and; as stated, finished the run with them. The Prince appropriated the head of the hare as a trophy of the chg.se. Several other hares were put up during tho afternoon, but though good runs resulted no further kills were made. Altogether it was a most enjoyable outing, and ■ tho Princo was loud in his eulogy of tli© aport provided.
