FIRST GRADE.

The following matches were played on Saturday :— UNIVERSITY A v. COLLEGE. The University A and College game was expected to bo the match of tho day, as Oollogo were loading University by one ipoint for tho cup. It was a fast, willing gaino throughout, but right from tho bully University assorted their superiority, and wore nover pushed. Only for tho fine goalKeeping of tho College man the scoro would iiavo stood much higher; ho stopped several very hot shots,, but on some occasions failed to olear by using his stick instead of his °t at critical moments. The .Blues' forwards were playing every man in position, and their line came away together every tirno. University scored early in tho game. College then pressed, but could not clear their naif. From the bully Mali an and Smith carried play to University's twenty-five, but tho former's shot went wide. Resuming, W. Aylmon transferred play to Miller, who made a fast run down tho wing, and sent in a fast one, which was woll saved, iurbott and Graham© then camo through, Uraname shooting, but an infringement saved College a goal. Directly after a shot trom lurbott was saved, but University's inside left, following up, scored. College rallied, their left wing taking play to £51ues circle, where, from a scramble, Colj -iir . score. Goring cleared, and \Vatson racing down the wing, sent in a centre, from which W. Aylmon rushed in aind scored close up. College wero playing a hard game, and fielding well, but their forwards never seemed ready for a combined attack, most of their rushes being solo elrorfcs. Blues again became aggressive, and with pretty passing reached the circle shot. . e time College managed to beat the University backs and scored. University added two more goals before time. For a young team College played well. University now lend for the oup by 1 point. Mr T. S. Mitchell acted as roforee. GYMNATIC v. UNIVERSITY' B. Oval No. 2 ground, where the Gym-nastic-University match was played, was rather rough in places and militated against last play. Gymnastic opened the attack m University's twenty-five, but Lindsay cleared. Tlio Reds, from a hit by Muir, carried play down the right wing and scored first blood. Before half-timo Reds scored agam with a good shot. Plav brightened in tho second spell, and fed bv M Leod and Newton, Mitchell made some good runs down the wing. From a' centre Morrison netted. Tho Reds were now dom,g attacking, and M'Leod, at centrehalf, was missing nothing, his feeding pf the forward line being well-timed. Ihe City team travelled to Port Chalmers to play tho newly-formed eleven there on their home ground, A clean and spirited exhibition of the game resulted, the visitors finding the ground faster and more suited to passing tactics than the Oval. Y.M.C.A. I his gamo was keenly contested from start to Imish, ajxl although Union "won by a good margin, Y.M.C.A. as well as Umon showed pretty fair form. From the start of the game tho Whites had tho Y.M.UA. on the defensive, and scored three goals in very short time, after which the Y.M.C.A woke up and carried the play to the Union twenty-live, but wero stopped by the baoks Who were playing a very sound game, especially Grind ling, whose play at times was pretty to watoh. After some give and take play Union forwards got possession of tho ball and scored their third goal. . In tho next half Union held the upper hand, and registered three more goals. Towards tho end of tho game both teams played very hard, and Y.M.C.A. were unlucky hi not scoring. Mr George ably controlled a good game, which ■■ended in Union's favour by 6 goals to nil. PRIMARY SCHOOLS' MATCH.

Macandrew Road defeated Albany Street by 7 goals to nil, but the game was more oveu than the score indicated. LADIES' MATCHES.

Taieri defeated Momona by 6 goals to nil. Scorers for Taieri: V. Mitchell (2), R. M'Leod, 0. Tansley (one each). M. Hanlin (2). Mr Frame controlled the game! Univorsity B, three goals, drew -with Waiata, three goals. The scorers for University -were Misses Mildrum, Ayson, and Barclay. Miss Wynn secured Wdata's three goals. Mr G. L. Scott was referee. The B Grade match, Otago v. St. Joseph's, resulted: Otago 4, St. Joseph's niL For Otago Miss Newlands scored three goals, and Miss Mawhinney. Mr Cos controlled the game. ,
