A NEW YORK RAID. NUMEROUS ARRESTS MADE. NEW YORK, March 14. The police raided a meeting of members of the Union of Russian Peasants of American and made over 100 arrests. The literature seized included . books printed in Russian advocating the overthrow of the United States Government. Eugene Debs, the Socialist, in a farewell speech at Cleveland before starting his 10-years' sentence for sedition, approved of the Bolshevists,, and described Lenin and Trotsky as the foremost statesmen of the age.—Reuter. PROBABLE DEPORTATIONS. - ' NEW YORK, March 15. (Received- March 17, at 7.20 p.m.) The police raided the headquarters of the American Union of Russian Peasant Workers, and arrested 200 men and women, among whom were alleged Bolshevists. A quantity of' anarchistic literature was confiscated. Some of the prisoners will probably be-deported. No violence occurred during the raid.—A. and N.Z. Cable. \ - GERMAN ANTI-BOLSHEVIST LEAGUE. NEW YORK, March 15. (Received March 17, at 7.20 p.m.) Despatches from Berlin state that a German Industrial League has been organised, with a fund, of 12.000,000 dollars,for the purpose of opposing Bolshevism A. and N.Z. Cable.
THE EX-CZAR. PROOF OF DEATH NEEDED. NEW YORK, March 14. Mr Bernard Naumburg, a New York lawyer, has been appointed by the Supreme Court to ascertain whether the ex-Czar is dead. Mr Naumburg holds a judgment against the ex-Czar for over £20,000 for delivery of sugar to Russia on the ex-Czar's orders before the latter's downfall. The ex-Czar had £200,000 on deposit at the National Bank in New York, but the bank will not pay out of this the amount of the judgment till it is proved that the ex-Czar is dead.—Reuter.
