MELBOURNE, January 27. There are now 156 cases of influenza in the city.

NEW SOUTH WALES PRECAUTIONS. ' SYDNEY, January 27. (Received Jan. 27, at 9.55 p.m.) lhe Board of Health has finally decided that pneumonic influenza has obtained a footing in New South Wales. A committee visited the Randwick Hospital and diagnosed suspicious cases, all of which were contracted in Melbourne. The Director of Quarantine was officialy notified to that effect, and requested to proclaim the State infected. Schools, theatres, picture shows, and other indoor amusements will be closed from to-morrow. "5.0.5." cards on New Zealand lines are being distributed. All steamer passengers from Melbourne are medically examined. A Red Cross campaign to combat the scourge has commenced, and masked V.A.D.'s are patrolling certain districts distributing literature.

ADDITIONAL CASES IN MELBOURNE. MELBOURNE, January 27. (Received Jan. 27, at 9.35 p.m.) Ten fresh cases were reported to-day, and two deaths occurred.
