TRIBUTE TO ITS PERSONNEL.
NEW YORK, January 21. The Herald says editorially that critics' of Britain's fleet have been over-fond of saying that Britain's fleet won by sheer numerical strength. The truth is that Admiral Beatty's triumph was due not only to numerical strength, but also to the superior valour of its personnel. .■ I n the race for supremacy British builders surpassed their German rivals ton for ton. The British vessels were also better ins ships. This was accepted by the Germans, who, after the battle of Jutland, did not dare to come out and accept battle. A. and N.Z. Cable.
