x PRESIDENT WILSON'S VIEW.
NEW YORK; January 23. The Evening Sun's Paris correspondent suggests that the Pacific Islands should be divided between Australia .and Japan. There are indications- that Mr Lloyd George is dissatisfied with Mr W. M. Hughes's interviews concerning the Islands which have appeared in the American press.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
LONDON, January 22. The Evening Standard's Paris correspondent says: It is incorrect to suppose that President Wilson wants the German colonies restored. He believes that their neighbours should decide the question — A. and N.Z. Cable.
PARIS, January 23. Mr Hughes denies the statement published in London that he advocated the allocation of the islands north of the equator to Japan, It is, he says, a matter for decision by the conference. He holds strongly for the allocation of the islands south of the equator to Australia. On the latter point it is believed that Mr Wilson is not entirely in accord with colonial aspirations.—A and KZ.
