PICTURE THEATRES

THE NEW RESTRICTIONS.

PLEA FOR MODIFICATION.

(Per United Press Association.) CmUSTCHURCH, December 19 A deputation representing the picture proprietors waited "on the Hon. G. W Russell regarding the new law restricting hours. Ihe speakers stated that the proprietors and employees, who were financially atfectod, did not ask for an alteration in the restrictions which were already law, but thoy hoped they would bo modified later ■under a new law. Few theatres in New Zealand were paying their way. The Minister, in reply, said tho laws had been made to cover cases where the conditions were bad. The restrictions were carefully considered, and expert advice showed that the law was for tho good of tho country. If it was found that they had gone too far the restrictions would doubtless bo modified next session.
