THE BILL TO DATE.

Starting with a modest £13,910 in the financial year 1915-16, New Zealand's war pensions bill i>assed tho half-million mark last year, and reached a total of £742,585 during the first oig-ht months of this financial year. New Zealand has already paid out in pensions as a result of the great war a sum of £1,452,329, and the 25,813 pensions granted involve an annual liabilitv of £1,711,481. _ Successive improvements in the pension scale, and tho more serious cases which had to bo dealt with as the campaign progressed, resulted in the average pension rising from £46 in J1915-16, £53 tho following year, to £67 per annum to-day.
