Tho Rieo and Shino No. 1 drodgo mode good progroau last woolc in extending tho cat to tho westward. Tight wash waa got on a bottom of whito clay on tho oust side, clwriging to free yellow clay in tho otlier part of tho cut. Tho prospects indicate that fairly good returns will be got when a working tuoo is opened out. Tho No. _ dredge recommenced work on Wednesday week. A bottom of soft red clay and sandstone gave fair prospects at a depth varying from 28ft to 45it. Tho wash was very light; and silt continued to give some trouble.

Tko managers of the following mines report:—Now Zealand Quicksilver Mines: Owing to tho epidemic very littlo work has been done at tho mine, and tho plant was shut down imtil December 3. It was then restarted with a good supply of ore in hand. Tho amount of quicksilver in hand is 83 bottles. Thirty-soven bottles wore shipped to Australia in September and November. Kuranui: The Magazine tunnel has been extended Bft. Another break is showing in tho face, but it has not v yet been penetrated. The contractors havo a farther 15ft to bore in order to complete their contract.
