Wednesday, December 18. (Before Ms H. A. "Young.. S.M.) Drunkenness. —Two first onenders who did not appear ware each lined the amount of their bail (20s), in default 48 hours' imprisonment. By-law Case. —George Alfred Brookes, for whom Mr Irwin appeared, was charged with being the owner of a pig found wandering in 'l'aimiL—Counsel explained that the animal had got out of its pen and strayed into the lupins, and the defendant had a great deal of trouble in recapturing it. He suggested that a conviction would meet the case in the circumstances. —&uib-inspector

Mathieson mentioned that the defendant had used insulting language to Constable Meiklejohn.—Mr Irwin said his client was sorry for -what he bad said.—-The Magistrate convicted and ordered the defendant to pay court costs (7s). An Indecent Assault.—Percy Lockhart was charged with assaulting a boy with intent to commit a serious offence.— The Magistrate ordered the court to bo cleared while the evidence was taken. — Several witnesses were called, and their evidence being heard, accused pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.—The accused also pleaded guilty to a chaTge of stealing a bag eontaininjr various articles of the total value of £1, the property of Henry Wbettom, and was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when ; called upon,

Maintenance.—William Henry Grimsey, who did not appear, was sentenced to two months' imprisonmeiil for failing to comply with an order of tho court for the maintenance of his wife and four children, the arrears to November 20 being £20, the w-arrant to be suspended so long as he paid 10s oS the arrears and at the same time kept up payments /on the order.
