The Works Committeo reported on tho maintenance work done during the fortnight, and stated tliat the regrading and reasphalting of the lower side of Harrington street would be put in hand when some necessary repairs in other parts of the town had been completed.—Adopted. Tho Finance Committee reported that the credit balance and receipts amounted to £580 3s 9d, and the expenditure to £364 17s 2d. Planting at tho reservoir was being pushed on as fast as possible.' In connection with the dumping of rubbish just inside the tip, near Mussel Bay Station, the committee recommended that some extra rails bo put there and a gate, if necessary, to prevent persons from dumping refuse.— Adopted. The Gas Committee reported that the re- . ceipts for the fortnight amounted to £25 18s 3d, and the expenditure to £106 Os Id. During the period ended September 20 181,000 cubic feet of gas were manufactured, averaging about 11,310 cubic feet per ton of coal. During the threo months ended August 31 tho quantity of gas sold amounted to 839,900 cubic feet for a revenue of £334 3s 3d (including meter rents), and the expenditure totalled £281 5s 3d. About 170 ft of relaying of tho Mount street main was completed, and the old ono proved to be in a disgraceful state. An adjoining pipe was completely gone, and the condition of pipes connecting houses with the main proved the advisability of renewing all tho active sen-ice into old buildings, and cutting off those not in use.—Adopted. .
