As his Excellency know, thoir club had for its object the fostering and encouragement of tho arts of musio and elocution, and it was also calculated to build up friendship amongst the brethren. The visit of his Excellency to Duncdin was auspicious, coming , as it did on the eve of tho groat news they had received that day.—(Applause.) Mr M'lntosh then asked Lord Liverpool to accept the badge of their club, and pinned it on his breast amidst loud applause. Lord Liverpool briefly replied. OTAGO CRICKET ASSOCIATION A meeting of the Otago Cricket Association was field last evening. Mr J. J. Clark occupied the chair. Mr J. S. Barrett (chairman of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council) wrote stating that tho annual meeting of tho council would be held in Christchurch on October 5. The Management Committee was of opinion that this season it might be possible to resume the Plunket Shield games, and would be pleased if the Dunedin Association would instruct its delegates as to its, views upon this matter.—lt was decided to appoint the present delegates—Messrs J. F. Peake and W. H. Windsor—until such time as the annual meeting is held. —The Chairman said that he thought the meeting would be on quite safe lines if it reaffirmed its previous decison regardng the Plunket Sheld matches.—lt was decided that the local as- ■* sociation was averse to the playing of Plunket Shield matches during the period of the war, owing to the large number of players who are away on active service; but considers it is advisable to maintain interest in tho game by playing representative matches between the different provinces. The delegates were, however, given a free hand at the annual meeting of the' New Zaland Association. A draft copy of the annual report was submited by the Secretary (Mr E. S. WilEon) and approved. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on October 12.
