MR MASSEY IN CANADA
A NOTABLE OCCASION. According to a private cable message received in Wellington, _Mr Massey, Prime Minister, at present in Canada en route homo from tho Imperial War Conference was tho central figure of a memorable scens at Montreal. He was invited by a deputation to address a meeting held in the largest Congregational Church in that city on ounday, 15th insfc.. and addressed a huge gathering on the "Lessons of tho War. i Reporting the address, the Montreal Gazette saysSo strong was the message of confident optimism by the Prime Minister of New Zealand that all traditions of k-unday church etiquette were cast to the winds, and tho speech was repeatedly greeted with unrepressed applause; while when he closed with a vehement message of confidence that the war was now eo promising that there was no possibility of any conclusion but an absolute victory and a clearing of the international board so thoroughly that no German kultur could ever again curse the peace of the world the congregation broke into prolonged applause _ which would probably have developed into cheers. This was" nrevented by tn° organist playing the National Anthem, which was sung with emphatic fervour."
