PATRIOTIC WORK.

Committee members of the Overseas Club and workers have spent a busy week making garments for sick and wounded soldiers in hospital in England and France. In view of the recent casualties among the troops and the prevalence of sickness, a good rally is desirable in order that as many soldiers' comforts as possible may be sent away. At the fortnightly meeting of the Caversham Nursing Division, the usual monthly parcel containing 14 pyjama suits, 6 under flannels, 24 service bags, and 34- manytailed bandages, was forwarded to the Red Cross Centre. The North-East Valley Patriotio and Red Cross Association reports that, owing to sickness, the usual Thursday meetings nave not been so well attended. The committee will be glad to welcome more workers, as there is a good supply of material on hand. The following work was completed duringAugust:—For the Early Settlers' Hall: 77 pairs socks, 45 balaclavas, 49 shirts, 380 dominion wrappers, 5 suits pyjamas, 16 handkerchiefs,. North-East Valley School: 9 _ paira socks, 30 housewifes, 26 towels, 7 girdles, 34 dominion wrappers, 3 face-cloths. The Upper Junction School sent 4 pairs socks, 14 handkerchiefs, 2 towels. The following were sent to the Red Cross Rooms: 5 dozen pairs wardi slippers, 7 shirts, 2 hospital coats, 546 surgical dressings, 260 swabs, 140 many-tailed bandages. .The Portobello Women's Patriotic Association has forwarded the following articles to the Early Settlers Hall:—2o pairs socks, 12 shirte, 3 balaclavas, 1 dozen housewifes, 19 wrappers, 8 hand towels, 12 soap bags. It also sent £l for dominion parcels. The school children's parcel contained 12 handkerchiefs, 4 pairs socks, 2 balaclavas, 8 wrappers, 2 girdles, 1 pair cuffs. The Anderson's Bay branch of the Red Cross Society reports that the weekly meetings are fairly well attended. The monthly district collections continue to keep up very well. The following goods were sent in to the centre:—4o day shirts, 25 suits pyjamas, 20 muslin shirts, 35 pairs socks. 6 face cloths, 9 pairs bed socks, 9 pairs cuffs and mittens, 7 balaclavas and caps. At tho last meeting of the Middlemarch Women's Patriotic and Red Cross Society a nice lot ;of work was received from the Anzac Sewing Class and the Sutton School. The Christmas Parcel Fund has now reached a total of £50 5s 6d. The ladies spent a busy afternoon packing, and the following articles were sent to Dunedin:—24 day shirts, 151 pairs socks, 195 handkerchiefs, 14 suits pyjamas, 48 eye bandages, 10 face cloths, 6 soap bags, 11 pairs cuffs, 47 pillow cases. The Pukehiki and Sandymount branch of the Women's Patriotic Association has sent the following articles to the Early Settlers' Hall:—Lady Liverpool Fund: 127 dominion wrappers, 62 handkerchiefs, 18 flannels, 12 shirts, 12 pairs socks. Tho Sandymount School sent 1 pair socks, 3 tea towels, 53 wrappers, 25 handkerchiefs. Fifteen new articles were sent for the Lady French Fund.
