ANNUAL MEETING. The forty-first annual meeting of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Socicty was held kst evening in the Agricultural . , r James Macau drew (president) occupied the chair. ' There was a fairly large attendance of members. Ihe Chairman said he would like to refer generally to members who had lost relatives at the front, and at his invitati&n a vote ot sympathy was passed to these. Continuing he moved the adoption of the report and balance sheet, and referred feelingly to deceased members, mentioning Messrs p.',, Philp, W. J. J. Charters, James Jielcl, anc A. Haihilton, a vote of sympathy to the relatives being passed. Speakinn- to the report, he sa]d Hoods had accounted" for iu- o at last Winter Show, but everything looking bright, and they hoped matters were going to improve. They all knew what the. socicty had done for patriotic associations in a variety of directions. I hey had given the use of Tahuna Park tree of charge from patriotic motives, and there had been a falling-oft' in revenue from that source of about £25. It was gratifying to see how the fruit and wool exhibits had gone up, and they hoped to do very much better in this direction next vear. He urged that members should canvass for now members, and congratulated Mr Movnihan, who had obtained some 15 or 20 new ones. Mr R. A. S. Cantrell seconded the motion which was carried. The Chairman mentioned that enlarged photographs of the late Mr John and of Messrs John Roberts and W. Soutor had been received, so that thev might be placed upon the walls of the board room Ihe two last-named gentlemen were the two surviving members of committee who had held office since the inception of the society in 1877. Mr Shiel suggested the advisability of artificial manures being analysed. Mr C. ,Morris asked if it was not necessary for firms to give an analysis of the manures they sold. A member remarked that a guarantee had to bo given, Mr Reid pointed out the advisability of veterinary surgeons going with the class stewards so as to pass animals fit to bo exhibited in Class 7. for steers and heifers. This would save exhibitors protesting against any animal as being unfit. The Chairman said that was a big order. They assumed exhibitors wpto honest men Mr Reid then moved—"That it be a recommendation to the committee to consider the matter, as referring to yearling and t.wo-year-old classes," and this' was acreed to. " Eight new members were elected, and a vote of thanks to the retiring president concluded the meeting.
