THE WINTER SHOW
OPENING CEREMONY TO-DAW The Show will bo opened this afternoon by tho Mayor of Dunedin (Air J. ( J. Clark). Iho Hon. Mr Mac Donald (Minister of Agriculture), tuleyrapiied yesterday to Mr 1" uiton: " Sincerely regret that owing to urgent Cabinet business I have had to cancel my proposed visit to Dimcdin. 1 am very disappointed that I shall be unable to bo present at tlio opening of your show to-morrow. 1 hope, however, in tho near future, to visit Dunedin and Southland. I wish the show every success." All arrangements are well forward for tho opening'. A large attendance is expected during the week, and those who patroniso the hall may depend upon seeing, in all departments, some of tho best cxhihits over presented at a Winter 'Show in this city. Ihe judging of tho butter aiid checso was completed yesterday by tho Government graders, and tho results will be announced to-day. Tho fruit display will prove an eye-opener to many. Thero are people in Dunedin who do not know yet what the province is capable of producing m tho fruit line, and tliis show will bo a splendid object lesson for tliem. The best of provision has been made for tho catering. Beath's String Band will be present in thp afternoon while the Pipe Band and the band of tho Fourth Regiment will play in tho evenincrs.
