AUCKLAND CONFERENCE,
(Pee United Pbess Association.) AUCKLAND, May 27. The Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union was opened to-night. Mr A. A. Ross (president) occupied the chair. The conference carried remits from the oxccutivo as follows:-—"That the occupiers of national endowment land be granted the option of the freehold, and that all lands be thrown open on these terms, the proceeds to bo re-invested for the benefit of the objects for which they had been endowed "; " that the Government be urged to push forward afforestation, especially with regard to quick-growing trees " ; " that the Government be urged to proceed at the earliest possible moment with a scheme for harnessing tin water power of the dominion."
Another remit which was carried affirmed tho need for an improvement in the system of Government, and called oil tho National Government to deal with tho question of inaugurating' means for improvement. It was resolved to call a public meeting in tho cities and country districts with the object of having parliamentary representation discussed by all sections of tho community.
