Although a fairly large number of horses were at Wingatui on Saturday morning very few of thom were galloped. Some of those which raced at Oamaru were on the easy list. The grass tracks are remarkably firm for the period of the year, and would be benefited by a good fall of rain. Placid and Black Mountain ran over five furlongs on the inside grass in lmin 6 2-ssec, finishing together. Tin Soldier led Rorke's Drift over seven furlongs on the outside of the course proper in lmin 42 2-ssec. Don Pucifico ran aver seven furlongs on the plough in lmin 82sec, and was doing his best at the finish. Thaddeus and Samiel, covered the same ground in lmin 32 4-ssec without being ridden out. Wild Pilgrim left six furlongs on the coarse proper behind in lmin 26scc, ai d strode along in good style. Kilbrogan got through steady work on the plough. Mnrsa worked the last seven furlongs of a mile on the middle grass in lmin 34sec. Ardanvhor, Mohawk, Red Eagle, Balboa, Achilleus, Golden King and a few others were also on tho course. Turehaua was schooled with the Wild Lily gelding. Turehaua began by negotiating the treble in front of the stand and then missing the post and rails, picked up the other, and continued on and finished over the stand treble. Turehaua jumped well, and so did the Wild Lily gelding, except -at tho sod wall, which, however, occasionally trips some clover jumpers. Others were to be schooled during the afternoon. Acceptances for the first day of the Dunedin winter meeting are due this evening, Golden King walked rather lame in the near foreleg when on the course at Wingatui on Saturday. J. Rrae will probably re-enter the Hospital after tho Dunedin winter meeting, as he is not enjoying the best of health at present. He is, however, well enough to superviso the training of Placid and Blue Mountain for thair engagements at the meeting. BASKET BALL. First Church A 21, Y.W.C.A. 7. First Church B 27, Caversham 16.
