OTAGO WINTER SHOW
Active preparations .are in progress for the Winter bhow, which is to be held on I four days next week, commencing on Tues- ! day. j The Hon. Mr Mac Donald (Minister of I Agriculture) has consented to perform the opening ceremony. This will take place ! in His Majesty's Thoatre at 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday. The entries are considerably in excess of those of last year, and the display of wool and fruit will be far ahead of anything previously seen at the Winter Shows. The Space Committee has altered the arrangement of the exhibits and the stalls, with a view to showing everything to better advantage. This will allow of more accommodation for visitors. Mr D. Tannock has generously offered to assist in the decoration of the Fuller Hall, which will be entirely devoted to the display of fruit. The catering will be in tlie hands of Otago and Southland Women's Patriotic Association. The curio stall will be run by returned soldiers, under Rifleman Vallange. "Our Soldiers' Stall will be another attraction, under the charge of Mrs Sargood. The Otago _ and Southland Women's Pariotic Association will have a flower stall, under Mrs C. P. M. Butterworth, and the Red Cross Sooiety will occupy a prominent place to bring its good objects before tho publio. Each afternoon Beath's string band will play, and in the evenings the bfind of the 4th Regriment and the Highland Pipe Band: will be in attendance. —" Face to Face with Kaiserism," the new book by J. W. Gerard (formerly American Ambassador in Berlin), is to be published byMessrs Hodder and Stoughton. Oyer 300,000 copies of ex-Ambassador Gerard's book, "My Four Years in Germany," have been sold in Great Britain, the British colonics, and the United States of America.
