CITY POLICE COURT
TmmsDAY, MAT 23. (Beforo Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) Drunkenness.—William John Newman, who had been remanded for medical treatment, was convicted and ordered to pay medical expenses totalling £1 18s. Theft.—May Lilian Dore pleaded guilty to stealing two blouses, valued at £5, the property of Brown, Ewing, and Co. (Ltd.). —Chief Uetectiyo Bishop stated that on March 6 complainants sent some blouses on appioval to a certain business place in the oity. These blouses -passed through the accused s hands, and she succumbed to a sudden temptation, and took two of tho blouses. Up to the present she had been a very respectable young woman, and came from a very highly respectable family in Dunedin, and there was no accounting for her lapse. The Magistrate said accused's appearance in court was no doubt a sufficient punishment for her. On this occasion she would ho convictcd and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months.
