THE KAURANGAROA TRAGEDY
BENNIER EXECUTED. ! (Pee United Pbess Association.) WELLINGTON, January 19. Bonnier, the Kaurangaroa murderer, was executed this morning for tho murder of his wifo last September. Throughout Bennier has maintained a stolid' demeanour, and at times appeared indifferent. When told that the death sentence was to bo carried out he made no reply, and in all his conversations with clergymen never mentioned thn crime. ilo passed' a. restful night, and ate a hearty breakfast. Ho walked firmly to the scaltold. Asked if ho desired to say anything, ho replied that lie did, and in u. low, but clear, voice, said: "'I wish to thank tho ministers for their kindness, and (after a pause) may God protect my children." Death was instantaneous.
