PLAZA THEATRE

A pictorial adaptation of Harold M'Uratn's novel, '"Pidgin. Island," is the leading attraction in the change of programme at tho Plaza 'i'heatrc. The story, which is full of incident, deals with the tracking down by the detective Cranford of a body of men who are "engaged in the smuggling of opium and pearls. Cranford iirst lays himself out to catch the men in a Nevy York underworld who arc trafficking in opium, and having located, their headquarters, he communicates with the police. The police wagons at once set out to the den, and gallop through the crowds of spectators who line the streets to witness the unusual spectacle. The light between the police and the smugglers ;s of a, desperate character, and many heads are broken before the gang are disarmed and marched to prison.. Then Cranford goes to Pidgin Island- on a vacation. Thero he jiKv.'ts Diana Wynne, who is also holidaymaking. Tho two fall in love.. Tho head of the- gang, who has so far escaped all the traps laid to identify and capture him, has decided to use Pidgin Island a.s a base, and Fends an aeroplane there with a parcel of pearls which have not paid) the Customs duty. Tho aeroplane is destroyed in a big storm, Cranford and Diana nearly lose their lives when rowing to the island, and the spectators then discover that both the lovers arc engaged in the work of tracking down the smugglers, who are shortly after captured.
