SOUTH ISLAND POULTRY ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The nnrnin] meeting of the South Island Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association was held at Ghristchmrch on Wednesday night, Mr G. E. Jeffreys being in the chair. Eighteen delegates ' were present. An application for affiliation by tho Rhode Island Red Specialist Club was granted. The eighteenth annual report stated that the Association's art union, though not supported ae well as it had been last year, had resulted in a profit of £29 lls 5d to the association, and a like sum to the Red Cross funds. The breeds to compete for the challenge shield lat present held by Ashburton) for 1919 would be balloted for. The question of the Government Agricultural Department's officers judging at affiliated shows had been referred to the meeting. The council suggested that the question should be referred to the sub-committee which it was proposed to set up, with power to act. The balance sheet for tho year showed that the association would start tho year with £101 Is lid. The council suggested that £50 should be deposited in the Christcflurch P.O. Savings Bank to meet contingent liabilities for championships, thus placing,the association on a sound financial basis. ■ . In his opinion, affiliated societies should receive benefits from the association in proportion to the support that they gavo it. The association had had a pleasant year, in epite of the hardships of the present tunes, and he thought it was to be congratulated on its present sound financial position. The report and balance sheet were adopted. . _ Tne following officers were elected:—±Tesident, Mr G. E. Jeffreys; vice-presidents-Messrs E. J. Ross, P. Carolin, C. Matheson, W H. Amos, S. Dktk, and A. A. Perano; councillors—Messrs J. Tindall, A. Gapes, and H. Beardsley; hon. auditor, Mr V. Bedwell; secretary and trasurer, Mr J. H. Shaw. The Chairman, moved the council's remit: "That the incoming council be directed to set up a sub-committee empowered to meet the North Island Association, or any bubcommittee appointed by it, and any other body or person the joint committee of the two associations may think advisable, lor the purpose of drawing up a standard for judging utility poultry classes at affiliated shows in both islands."—After lengthy discussion it was carried, as also were the following:—"That the council be empowered, if it shall think fit, to adopt such standard on behalf of the South Island Association, and to make any modifications of the rules and regulations of the association necessary to bring such standard into immediate operation." "That the association consider the possibility of contributing out of the profits of the art union towards the expenses of delegates of societies and clubs situated at a distance from the place of meeting." "That the incoming council be empowered to apply for a permit to hold an art union in 1918." A motion was passed, "That no monetary prize be awarded for championships in which there are less than six competitors, and that where there are less than six competitors certificates only be awarded."
