The postponement of the Horticultural Society's spring show did not suit all local growers of spring flowers, which in many gardens are now in their prime, and would bo in less perfect condition a week- hence. In order that these blooms might bo seen at tbeir best Messrs Reilly, Gill, and Co. placed a corner of their auction rooms at the disposal of amateur horticulturists, where a very beautiful collection of ' e blooms -was staged yesterday. The exhibition was not a competition display, tho public being left to form their own conclusions as to tho merits of tho flowers in the various classes. The principal exhibitors were Mesdames Gordon, A. Tapley, G. Bromley, and Messrs O. Reilly, W. M'Arthur, and R. Fountain. There was r.n attractive display of trumpet daffodils, including Lord Roberts, Mrs Rc rt Sydenham, Mrs H. Veitch, toehinvar, Ibis, Horace, Basrd of Avon, and Cassandra. In the Barri section blooms of Red Lady, Incognita, Artist. Valeria, and Zenith attracted special notice. Amongst the In comparabili class Mrs Gordon had a bloom (Great Warley) that may fairly be described as magnificent in substance and quality. Specimens of Lucifer and Bedouin wero (shown in good condition. Amongst tho exhibitors in tho seodlmg class wero Sirs Gordon, Messrs Tapley, M'Carthy, and Mr Haggitt (Invercargifl), many of the blooms showing successful hybridising. About 40 varieties of polyanthus and primroses were shown by Mr Tomlinson, and Mr A. MacArfcbur contributed many beautiful hyacinths. These attractions will bo again on view to-day, and are decidedly worth, inspection.
