SUBMARINE CAMPAIGN
UNCONFIRMED REPORTS. U BOAT IN AMERICAN WATERS. Renter's Telegrams. NEW YORK, September 17. Another incoming steamer reports that 3he picked up a wireless message stating that a submarine, 300 ft long, with two periscopes and guns fore and aft, had been seen in American waters. The submarine screened itself in smoke before disappearing. The statements are not officially confirmed. TORPEDO DEFLECTING DEVICE. INVENTION BY MR EDISON. Reuters Telegrams. WASHINGTON, September 18. (Received Sept. 19, at 0.25 a.m.) Great interest is being taken in Mr Edison's seci-et new torpedo deflecting device. A spectacular test was made on Sunday, when the passengers on a liner saw a torpedo jump away from a ship. •Many vessels are already equipped.
