ALLOWANCES TO MARRIED MEN. In view of the present agitation by the' Second League for increased allowances to dependents and pensions, it niay be of interest to show what are the earnings of a married man who enlists as a private in the Australian Expeditionary Force. The total fortnightly income of a man with a wife and no children is £4 9s 10d (his pay)} the fortnightlv pension ii the husband is totally incapacitated is £4 10s, and the fortnightly pension if the husband is tilled is £2. A private with a wife and one child receives as pay £4 15s Id (plus 12s 6d a fortnight, Patriotic Fund allowance if required), making his total fortnightly income £5 7s 7d.
