DENTISTS AT THE FRONT

June 12. a New Zealand dentist now on serviceone of the 100 who have been withdrawn for war service out of the 5O) practising in JNew Zealand—takes exception to a statement of the Minister of Public Health with regard to the training of students in New Zealand. It seems that since the inception of thr Dectal School in Dunedin between 50 and «J students have entered, and one-quarter ot that number have taken degrees, the remainder being engaged in post-graduate work Fast students now on active service include: Brigadier-general B. C. Freybonr Major Saunders, OS.O. (8.D.5.), Captain t^- 8 - 1 ' Oaptain Grpell UJ.D.b.), and Lieutenant Turner (B D S') Lieutenants Bell, Rose, and Ryan, who'arc all graduates, are serving in New Zealand as also are Mr Rattray (8.D.5.) and Mr Hansen (BD.S.). Private M'Kenzie ia with the A.M.R., and Sergeant Giimour has been killed in action. The Otago Dental School itself is represented by tha following members of the staff, who are on active eorvice:—Lieutonant-colonel T. A. Hunter Major H. P. Pickerfll, Captain Glendining, Lieiitfnant Donaldson, and lieutenant Nicholson. 'rhe Minister is alleged to have said that only one student had presented himself for examination under the Dentists' Act in six years.
