SUCCESSES IN FRANCE. In a letter to the president of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletio Association, Sergeant Frank Per kins says.—"We have had another bic sports meeting in France. I was again fleeted to represent New Zealand, and won the 100 Yards and 440 Yards Champion snips. I was also a member of the New Zealand relay team, and wo won this event *? fine style. Jack Hewitt, of the Caversham Olub, won the hop, step, and jump. Lieutenant Keddell acted as starter, and J*" ie ° ou t his duties most successfully Ihe Maoris won the tug-of-war. I have now started in six. races in France and have won them all." '

Nearly three years ago Mr Walter Ibbofrson left the stair of Charles Begg and Co! to join the New Zealand Expeditionary forces Since.then he has seen service on Galhpoh and in France. His work and conduct m the army have enabled him to srain the _ rank of lieutenant and to .win the r?oT? nd covoted distinction of the JJ.O.M. On Monday evening the members ot Begg's staff gathered, under the genial presidency of Mr Alexander Begg (managing director) to honour their late fellow member on the staff, and advantage was taken of the opportunity to present Lieutenant Ibbotson with a diamond tio pin and to offer him a welcome on his safe return and hearty congratulations on the nonoor which had been bestowed on him. GREEN ISLAND "WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION. There was a good attendance at the rooms yesterday afternoon, when 100 dominion parcels were packed. The work handed in tor the week was:—3 dozen service bags 7 day shirts, 3 dozen tea towels, 1 dozen housewifes, 8 pairs socks, 10 balaclava caps, llio school chikken sent in 19 handkerchiefs, 7 towels, 1 housewife, 3 balaclava caps. Donations were received from Mr Harraway and Mr H. Clarke. MACRAES-MOONLIGHT PATRIOTIC SOCH3TY. The ladies of the Macraes-Moonlight Patriotic branch forwarded the following articles to the Early Settlers' Hall:—9 pairs of socks, 3 balaclavas, 5 flannel shirts 1 khaki shirt, 12 service bags, 12 handkerchiefs, and 2 face cloths. The workers were Mesdames J. Donaldson, Donoghue Finnie, Forrest, Gilbert, Griffin, T. Peddie* M j Misses Gil£ord > Griffin, Bell! and M'Erlain. The collectors brought in POET CHALMERS PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION. The meetings of the association still continue to be very well attended. It is hoped that all who aro interested in patriotic work will avail themselves of the opportunity of seeing a display, to be given early next month, of all the various kinds of work done by tho association. The Red Cross branch will be very glad of donations of old linen. Contributions have been received from Mesdames Highet, C. J. Scott Dale W. Perry, J. B. Shanks, Hay, Holland A* Shanks, Misses Ulingworth, Tregonning (Waipiata). Monson, Rue, Knewstubb Ellen Facer, Mrs and Miss Beazley, W. and J Holland, "Friend," s.s. Maunganui, choral concert. Mr M'Alistoi- (secretary to tho Minister of Public Works) has received information that his son (Corporal Hugh M'Ali«tcr) who was * gassed" some weeks ago in Iranee, lias rejoined his unit.
