ENEMY IN EAST AFRICA, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association and Eeuter. LONDON, July 25. East Africa official : In an action at Narongombe on July 19 in difficult hilly country the enemy's losses were heavy. They were driven out of all their positions! Their main body retreated towards tho Umbekuru Valley, while a small detachment retreated in a south-westerly direction. A small German column in the northern area was reported on July 20 to be upon the north shore of Lake Manyara, westward of Arusha. One of our columns, from Songea, on July 21 came into contact with tho retreating enemy 28 miles south-west of Mahengo, and we are pursuing them. In Portuguese East Africa enemy detachments from Southern Nyassaland are hastily retreating towards the Rovuma River. CORRUPTION AND CONSPIRACY. RETIRED PUBLIC SERVANT CHARGED, Australian and N.Z.
