SOUTH FLANK HOLDING TIGHT.
POSITION MAY BE RE* THIEVED. A BIG BREACH. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, July 25. (Received July 26, at 0.10 a.m.) The Morning Post's Petrograd correspondent says : " The Eleventh Army, in collapsing, lost largo numbers of prisoners and guns. The extent of the front affected is from 30 to 40 miles; northward of tho abandoned district everything iholds tight. In the south changes are being made to secure the exposed flank. Russia has made good greater breaches than this, which is a political and not a fighting failure, and may prove a blessing in disguise. " British naval armoured cars operated alongside and southwards of the traitorous Eleventh Army, and will probably assist to hold the threatened flank or cover a retreat." DEMORALISATION SPREADINC. SHOWING ON DVINSK FRONT. HEROIC MEN AND OFFICERS' STAND. Admiralty, per Wireless Press. LONDON, July 25. (Received July 26, at 0.10 a.m.) Russian official : South-west of Dvinsk our detachments occupied German positions astride the Dvinsk-Veln railway, but subsequently the whole of the units voluntarily returned' to their original trenches. A number of units disobeyed commands. The Twenty-fourth Division acted heroically, and lost heavily. The gallantry of the officers was noteworthy. The enemy has occupied a height northward of Bogush, in the direction of Vilna. The officers had the utmost difficulty in restraining great numbers of men from withdrawing to the rear. The enemy crossed the Sereth in the region of Mikulice, and occupied Volyamazovencky. The enemy continue their offensive between the Sereth and the Strypa, and have occupied, three villages. We are jholdiqg the line GaivoronkaMonastirzerka, north-west of Buczacz. We are retiring easterly southward of the Dniester, Stanislau being evacuated successfully. In a raid at Domukpatak, on the Rumanian front, torpedo-boats co-operated. Our artillery bombarded Tircoli, and destroyed depots and barracks.
