BOWLING

DUNEDIN CLUB. The annual meeting of the Dunedin Bowling Club was held in the pavilion last evening. Mr J. Rennie presided over a large attendance. Before the ordinary business was commenced, the chairman referred to the death of Mrs Foster (mother of Mr H. C. Foster, one of their esteemed members), who, he said, was practically a centenarian. He moved that a vote of condolence be passed to Mr Foster. —This was carried, the members standing. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the chairman complimented members upon the success achieved during the past year. Ho particularly referred to the Social Committee, which deserved the best thanks of members. The financial position was very good. The incubus on their property was wiped off, and he had pleasure in handing them the deeds of their hand some property.—(Applause.) He congratulated Mr Thomas Walker and Mr W. H. Duke upon the honours conferred on their sons for gallantry at the front. It was most gratifying that the young men of .this country had played such a prominent part in the Somme and Messines engagements. This showed that our race was not degenerating, and we all felt proud of those young men. —(Applause.) Mr A. C. Gillies seconded the motion. He considered _ that members had every reason to be satisfied with the financial position of the club. The year had been most successful notwithstanding the war. A good few of the young members had gone to the front, and while they regretted this they would, he hoped, not be long away. The motion was carried unanimously. On behalf of members the president presented Mr W. Emery with 'a letter bearing the seal of the club, and expressing their thanks for the assistance he had rendered at a time when the mortgage fell due. Mr Emery said this had been purely a business transaction on his part, and if there was anything more in it, it was purely a labour of love. —(Loud applause.) The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr T. G. Maitland; vice-president, Mr W. Smith; directors—Messrs J. Rodger, J. Rennie, A. Steele, E. Harraway, E. Rosevear, D. Robertson, J. Peterson; auditor, Mr James Brown; delegates to the Dunedin Centre— Messrs G. Nelson, J. Logan, and J. Bentley ; committee to control club ties— Messrs A. Steele and H. Williams After some discussion, it was decided that two selectors be appointed. Messrs Johnston and A. Black, jun., were appointed selectors. It was decided that the Green Committee be elected at the annual meeting, and not by the directors. Messrs Miller and Young were elected. as the committee. Mr Rennie, on behalf of the members. E resented Mr Mercer (secretary) with two eautiful Morris chairs—one for Mrs Mercer —as a token of their appreciation of' his services as secretary. He eulogised Mr Mercer's efforts on behalf of the club, for which they were all very much indebted to him. Mr Mercer said his work in connection with the club had. given him the greatest pleasure. He joined the club from a social point of view, ind had enioyrd h's conn ction with it. These presents had been made as a mark of the members' appreciation of his services, and he acccpted them in the spirit in which they were given.—(Loud ap p.?,"=e.) 'Fiie trophies won during the past season were presented.
