HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETINGS

TOKOMAIRIRO. The animal meeting of householders -was only sparsely attended, there being insufficient to form a full committee. The retiring chairman of committee (Mr J W Pctrie) presided. Tlio annual report stated tint the averago attendance for tho four quarters wasPrimary—234, 221, 231, 235; secondary--16, 15, 19, 9. , Classes in dressmaking, cookery, carpontry, and rural science were, conducted by tho board's visiting instructors, and needlework and painting were taught by Miss Nelson. Tho inspectors' report on the work done was excellent Durin" tho year £73 15s lid was raised 'bv tho pupils ior patriotic purposes. Tho following articles were made: 79 pairs socks' 30 knickers and bodices, 56 pillow cases 78 houscwifes, 85 ringlets, 110 eye bandages, 194 handkerchiefs, 75 girdles, 133 service bags, 141 soap bags, 27 petticoats, 5 quilts, oi tea towels. Tno r-ommittao commenced the year with a credit balance of £29 13s oa, and closed with a crcdit-.-of £25 6s 7d Iho retiring committee was re-elected- — Messrs J. W. About 20 householders attended the annual meeting for the election of a school committee. The report and balance sheet submitted by the outgoing committee were approved. The latter showed the receipts for tho year (including credit from previous year £47 15s), as having been £106 Is 6d and the expenditure £88 7s Bd, loavin- a credit balance of £17 13s 10d. Only tho required number of committeemen were nominated, and these were declared elected —Messrs W. R. Smyth, E. C. Browne, R. Gray, H. Brown, F. Brooks, J. Norrie and S. Keen.

A vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing committee for their services durin«the past year. It was resolved—" That the householders heartily endorse the report of tho committee in regard to the splendid work being done at the school by Mr Jones (rector) and his staff."—ln acknowledging the compliment Mr Jones drew attention to the centralising movement at present going on in connection with educational matters, and advised committees 'to keep a jealous eye oh their privileges and protest strongly against any curtailment of them. He also complained of tho unfairness to pupils and teachers of bringing regulations into force after the school year was well advanced. At a subsequent meeting of the new committee Mr W. R. Smyth and R Gray wero elected chairman and secretary respectively. KAITANGATA. ' The householders' meeting was attended by 35 persons, and Mr D." Marshall presided. Tho annual report stated that the Belgian Children's Fund collections taken up werkly in the school reached a total of over £100. Owing to changes in the staff the school work suffered severely, and consequently the inspectors' report was not sff igood as usual. Except during the. June quarter, when an epidemic of measles broke out, the attendance has boon good. The quarterly attendance was as follows:—June'; 345 ; September, 348; December, 360; March, 349. Tho present quarter shows an attendance percentage of over 96, the bost averago_ since 1914. Tho bands (senior and junior), the Navy League, arid the Young Helpers' League, are now well established institutions of tho school.

The Chairman moved the adoption of the annual report, and explained several itoms. Tho motion was seconded by Mr A. Kayo and carriod. . The following committee was elected:— D. Marshall (rhairmnn). H. Lonman, F. Middlemass (treasurer), T. Waters, A S M'Tntosh. W. Clarkson. A. T. Smythe (secretary), A. Froude, W. Marsh. Matters in relation to a roll of honour wore left in the'hands of the new committee

Mr W. H. Horn presided oyer the householders' meeting in connection with the Sawyers' Bay School.

The annual roport showed that the average attendance had been well maintained being. 133.- The children's savings bank showed a credit balance of £9 18s lid During • the. winter holidays the school was thoroughly , fumigated, and all buildings, etc., wero in a clean and satisfactory condition. Mrs Treloar was appointed janitrcss, and had carried out her duties in a factory manner. The committee recommended that all books in the primary schools should be uniform, that the board should sitrmly writing paper for the children s use; and that, in view of the increasing cost of exerofse books, slates be used as much as possible. The Navy League roll contained 83 members. At the final examination for the year all the pupils presented for profiejency were successful, excepting one, who' gained competency! The cookery and carpentering clasers lnid been conducted throughout the year in the usual manner. The balance sheet showed tho income for the year to be £73 6s 4d and the expenditure £64 16s Id, leaving a credit balance of £8 10a 3d.

O'f the retiring committee only four sought re-election, and. there boinsj no other nominations. Messrs A. Kydd' F Long. R. Harknrss, and W. H. Horn were declared duly elected. At a subsequent meeting Mr Hovn was again re-elected chairman, and Mr Lonrg as actur* hon secretary pro torn. ° LAUDER RAILWAY. Tho meet-ug oi householders on Monday evening was well attended. Mr Li. A, Eraucis was voted to the chair, and gave the meeting au outline of the work of the school for the year. The report was most satisfactory, rettecting great credit on the teacher (Miss Bodkin). The finances were in a very satisfactory state, showing a eons.derable credit balance. The following committee was elected for the ensuing year:—Messrs G. T. Alexander, Wm. Smith, James Clousiron, John Ryan, and Geo. A. Francis. At a subsequent meeting Mr G. T. Alexander was appointed secretary and treasurer, and Mr G. A. Francis -was re-elected chairman.
