CORRESPONDENCE CONDENSED.
" Verb Sap," seeing that Mr J. J. Cla.rk has discharged his mayoral duties 60 admirably during the last t.wo years, thinks it a, pity that ho is not allowed to have a walkover on this occasion. Ho lias proved himself a man of great ability, splendid tact, and consummate skill, and was unremitting and indefatigable in tho execution of his multifarious and excessively arduous duties., which ho performed with credit and distinction. "Verb Sap" suggests that even now tho opposition to Mr Clark's candidature should be withdrawn in recognition and appreciation of .the splendid service ho hits rendered. "T. C. M." dissents from the view expressed by us that tho Western theatre of the war will furnish tho great decision which will usher in tho triumph of the Allies. lie holds that the final struggle will take place in Palestine, basing this lx>liof on the prophecy contained in the third chapter of Joel: '' I will also gather ail nations, and will bring Them down into tho valley of JehoshaphaA, and v/ill plead: with them thero lor My people and for My hei'itago Israel, whom- they have scattered among tho nations .and parted My land."
