Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. WASHINGTON, August 23. Mr Lansing (Secretary of State) has announced that investigations are proceeding into the charges against Senor Valdez, President of the Panama Republic. It is alleged that he was instrumental in securing a 50,000-acre land concession for the agents of Japanese silk firms. The land is located on the Atlantic seaboard (opposite San Miguel Bay, on the Pacific seaboard south-east of the canal zone), and might be valuable for a naval base.
