ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

(Peb United Pbess Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 16. Tho infant chdd of Mr F. S. Silcoek, head master of the Glentunnel School, met its death under tragic circumstances this afternoon. Mrs Silcoek was giving the child its food in an old-fashioned feeding bottle, but left it to feed itself for a minute or two. On returning, she found the child dead, it having been suffocated. Yesterday afternopn, at St. Dominic's Convent School, a little boy named Reggie Sutherland, residing at 20 Howard street,, was .poked in the eye with a stick while playing at soldiers. Ho was taken to the Hospital, where the wound was attended to. This is tho second or third accident of tho kind, and something should be dona to warn children of the dangerous practice. The New Brighton police were engaged ail day on Friday and the previous day in dragging the rner Avon in tho vicinity of ■Wainoni for tho body of Daniel HenryCraig, a single man, about 35 years of age, who has been missing from his residence in Linwood (says tho Christchurch Press). ( Ciaig had boon suffering for somo consider-' able timo from a nervous breakdown, which had of late been affecting his head. A few days ago a bicycle and a coat and waistcoat which were identified as belonging to tho missing man, were found near the boat landing at Wainoni.
