INVALIDS REACH LYTTELTON. ' (Pas United Phkss Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. April 2L The transport Ulimaroa, with a largo number of invalided soldiers, arrived at Lyttolton this afternoon. A welcome to tho men was extended J>y tho Mayor of Christchurch and others in the presence of a large crowd of relations and friends. Tho northern men will leave by the ferry steamer to-night and the southern men by the first express to-morrow. ' GOING TO THE FRONT. Our Alexandra correspondent writes:—At a special meeting of tho Borough Council on Wednesday Mr Mostyn Fleming, who has been borough clerk for seven years, tondered his resignation, as ho has volunteered for the front. It was decided to fill the vacanoy only until Mr Fleming's re? turn, and with a returned man if possible. High encomiums were passed by the Mayor and council on Mr Fleming's work as a olerk and his worth as a man. Mr Fleming, who is clerk to tho Otago Central Foundry, has got a year's leave, and more if required. He is universally esteemed in Alexandra. LIEUTENANT EDWABDS. Word has been received by Mr H. G. Edwards, of Wellington, that his brother, Mr C. J. K. Edwards, of the Union Company's office, Dunedin, has been promoted to a lieutenancy in the Field Artillery of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Lieutenant Edwards, who has just attained his 2let birthday, left with tho Main Body as' a gunner, and served right through the Gallipoli campaign, being one of the men who served the last gun to leave Anzac during the evacuation. He received tho D.C.M. when a corporal, and was promoted sergeant prior to leaving the Peninsula.
