GOOD FRIDAY SERVICES
COUNCIL OF CHURCHES. Evidently the individual churches are in cordial agreement with the varied efforts of the Council of Churches to manifest tho essential success of the different denominations. Large and sympathetic congregations gathered in First Church both morning and evening yesterday. Well-known hymns were heartily sung, and did much towards making the worship bright and attjaetivo. In the absence of tho president (tho Rev. W. Gray Dixon), through illness, the secretary of the council (the Rev. Geo. Ilcighway) began the former meeting by conducting the devotional exercises. Two able addresses were given—the first, on "The Lamb Slain," by tho.Rov. S. Griffith, and the second by tho Rev. A. G. Randerson, on "The Lamb Enthroned." With many an apt illustration, that manifestly tolcl upon the audience, both speakers urged the meesag.e of the Crucified. In the evening the Rev. R. S. Gray (ex-presidont) took the chair. The subjects were: "Christ's Anticipated Suffering;" and "Christ's Anticipated Joy." Admirable >and powerful addresses were delivered by the. Rev. Chas. Dallaston and the Rev. W. Trotter, sending all away .with a now vision of God illuminating the soul. Mr Jesse Timson piesided at the organ at both services. At the conclusion of the evening service, the congregation stood while the "Dead March in Stud" was played as a tribute to the memory of the Rev. W. Slade. Neglected chills bring doctors' bills.
