ACCIDENTS FATALITIES:

WELLINGTON, April 2L A serious motor smash occurred on the Hutt road early this morning. Two cars were approaching one another at a smart pace, and when they were about abreast the tyre of one burst, causing the car to swerve. The result was a violent collision, and two persons were injured. A man named Marshall had both legs broken, and a woman named Doley had her left leg broken near the hip. Another accident occurred last night near the Government Buildings. 'A tramway freight car hit a motor driven by a soldier, who was accompanied by his mother. The motor was wrecked, but the ocupants escaped practically scathless. A man named George Read, 52 years of age, who ia engaged as a quarryman at Milburn, was admitted to the Hospital on Thursday afternoon. Ho was levering out a stone with a crowbar when another stone came down, striking the bar and driving it against his face. Some severe wounds were inflicted, the most serious being a fractured jaw. Marion Stewart, a school girl, living with her parents at Otakou, was running home from school on Thursday afternoon when she fell on some pieces of glass, cutting her eye rather badly. She was admitted to the Hospital yesterday morning. A shocking accident occurred at Wangaloa yesterday, when Allan Waugh, about 14 years of age, son of Mr James Waugh, a well-known farmer, met his death. It appears that the lad was engaged in unhitching a horse from-a drav, a few yards from the stable door. It is believed that the horse unexpectedly moved forward to enter tho stable, and the boy, in an endeavour to stop the animal, had his head crushed between the shaft and the building. He was found in this pitiable predicament, but died shortly afterwards. An old resident of South Invercargill, Mr Joseph Lee, 78 years of age, dropped ■ dead on Tuesday morning while wheeling a barrow full of apples which he had for sale (says the Southland Times). Deceased was a widower. He appeared to be in his usual health at 8 o'clock when spoken to by a resident of South Invercargill, but later he was found lying dead on the road. He received medical attention a few years ago for heart trouble, which was apparently tne cause of hie death.
