THE INTERMINABLE FARCE.
WASHINGTON, April 8. (Received April 9, at 5.5 p.m.) The German Government officially announces that no German warship or submarine sank the Sussex. The State Department is inclined to hold that the United States must now prove whether Germany torpedoed the Sussex before further action is taken.
TWO ADDITIONAL VICTIMS. LONDON, April 9. ■ (Received April 9, at 11 p.m.) The British steamer Braunton' (4575 tons, built in 1911) has been blown up. The crew were saved. The British steamer Chantala was sunk. Nine firemen were killed.
