PALMERSTON NOTES.

(Fhon Our Own Cokgespondknt.)

PALMERSTON, April 6. At the monthly stock sale on Monday, a fair number of store lambs were offered, but the prices on tho whole were disappointing. Tho other stock offered did not fetch the amounts that were, expected. The Ladies' Guild has been at work for &e last few weeks making necessary articles for the wounded soldiers. A large quantity of garments are ready to be sent away at the first opportunity. The recruiting cards for the borough have been nearly all filled up, but the number of rccruits enlisted by this means has not been in excess of the quota required from Palmerston. 1 . .. The weather has been exceptionally mild for the time of year, even the nights be'.ng quite -warm. Several showers have fallen during the week, but tho farmers say that more rain is wanted. The Borough Council held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, when the question of a site for a depot for receiving the rubbish was brought forward, the present having been condemned by the health officer. Ttie fixing of the site was adjourned to allow the councillors an opportunity of visiting the borough reserves with the object of securing a suitable place for a tip. The water supply has now returned to its usual quantity, and all chances of a water famine seem to have passed. No successor to the Rev. F. Thorpe has yet been appointed at the Anglican Church.
