POST AND TELEGRAPH SERVICES

PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENTS. The following provisional appointments in the Post and Telegraph Department have been made by the Publio Service Commissioner:— Mr A. Gibbs, staff engineer, Wellington, to bo telegraph engineer, Dunedin. Mjr C. S. Plank, assistant telegraph engineer, Christchurch, to be telegraph engineer, Christchurch. Mr J. C. Williamson, chief olerk, G.P.0., to be chief postmaster, Auckland. Mr A. T. Markmann, superintendent of staff, G.P.0., to be chief clerk, G.P.O. Mr G. M'N-amara, staff clerk, - G.P.0., to be superintendent of staff, G.P.O. Mr J. Robertson, assistant staff clerk, to be senior olerk, staff division.

Mr G. A. Empson, chief postmaster, Hokitika, to be chief Thames. Mr A. E. M'Gregor, chief clerk, Nelson, to 'be chief postmaster, Hokitika. Mr J. C. Dale, chief clerk, Invorcargill, to be chief postmaster, Westport. Mr F. E. Rout, clerk, Auckland, to be stamp clerk, Auckland. Mr A. Gibbs, who has just been appointed Telegraph Engineer, Dunedin, joined tho department Here in_ 1891. He was employed as telegraphist until 1906, when he was appointed as clerk to tho then Inspector of Telegraphs, who is now Chief Engineer. ' In 1,911 he was selected for tho post of electrician in the General Post Office, and on April 1, 1912, was appointed Staff Engineer, a position he has held up to tho present. Mr Gibbs is an Associate Member of the English Institute of Electrical Engineers.
