METHODIST COUNCIL

The annual meeting of the council was held on Monday, in the Octagon Hall social room. The Rev. E. Drake presided over a large attendance of delegates from city and suburban churches. The Chairman vacated the chair in favour of the newly-elected chairman of the district (the Rev. !S. Griffith), and congratulated h'"™ on the honour conferred on him by the recent conference. The nnmi.ii report was presented by the aecreiary (the Rev. W. G-reenslade), and the balance sheet, showing a credit balance, by the liev. W. A, Hay. Both were adopted. The report gave evidence of much necessary work in the interests of. the church having been taken in, hand by the counciL Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow:—President, Rev. S. Griffith; vice-presidents—Mr H Rosevear, Mr J. P. Simon; secretary, Rev. W. Greenslade; treasurer, Rev. Arthur Hopper; executive — Revs. 0. Eaton, W. A. Hay, R. Raine, Messrs D. O. Cameron, jun., W. H. Duke, I. Winton, C. White, and W. King. ' A special vote of farewell was accorded to the Rev. E. Drake, who is moving to Wellington. This was an expression of lie council's , appreciation of his _ ministry in Dunedin and suburbs, extending over six years, during the last two of which he was chairman of tho,Otago district, and wishing him every suooess and prosperity in his new sphere. In responding, the B«v.'. Mr Drake thanked all Methodists for the loyal support given him, and trusted that Methodism would continue to .prosper in Dunedin. Exceedingly interesting reports were g-'ven of the recent Auckland Conference by Mr E. Rosovear, the Rot. W. A. Hay, and tho Rev. C. Eaton, all of whom oxpressed their delight at the successful conference, and felt that groat good would accrue to tho church as ft result. _ It was decided to hold a special meeting of the council next month to inaugurate a united Methodist aggressive forward movement to strengthen tho spiritual life of the - present church membership and to reach the non-church-goer.
