ST. KILDA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borcmfh Council was held last evening; pre-sent-tho Mayor (Mr W. T. M'Farlane), Crs Campbell, M'Connell, Kilpatnek, Clark, Dove, Edgar, and Sutherland. The Director of ihe King Edward Technical College wrote advising the council that its contribution of £25 towards the college funds was now due, and that a cheque would be appreciated, —It was decided that the amount be paid. Mr D. Swinton, writing in reply to a letter received from the council to the effect that the footpath opposite his property would be kept in ordinary repair, stated that before no erected his house he was informed that the footpath would be kept as wpII as any in the borough by the council.— Referred to the Works Committee.^ The Secretary of the Otago Education Board applied for permission to construct a dray crossing to" the new St. Clair School site.—Granted. , Mr E. Trythall (secretary of parish of Caversham) wrote stating, that the question of rate 6 leviable on the church property at St. Kilda would be submitted to a vestry meeting to be held in April.—Held over. Messrs Lindsay and Co. applied to be apportioned a share of^ the council's horse feed business on condition that their, price and the quality of their goods were equal to those of other merchants. —It was agreed that Messrs Lindsay and Co. should have an opportunity of tendering when more horse feed was required. Mr George A. Bishop wrote directing attention to a drainage nuisance which existed alongside bis house in Richardson street, and which 'might be the cause of sickness. He asked that the council have it put right with as little delay 1 as possible.— To be attended to. , Mr A. Miles wrote complaining of the condition of the footpath in Nile street, and requesting the council to have it put in order.—Referred to the Works Committee for a report. . KEPOBTS.

The Works, Water, and Lighting Committee recommended that the footpath running past Mr D. Allan's house in Bay View road be put in hand at once, and also that the engineer be -nstructed to have Ings avenue footpath asphalted at once._ Concerning the material to be used in this work, the committee recommended that it be obtained from Shiel's quarry, and, failing that, the engineer be left'a free hand to" procure it at schedule prices. The plumber had reported that the " silent flushers" in the borough had not been working satisfactorily, and the committee reported that instructions had been given that the makers be requested to put the flushers in proper working order.—Adopted. Tile Finance Committee reported the following bank balances: —District fund account (dr.), £4757 3s sd; special loan account No. 2 (cr.), £198 13s 9d; special loan account No. 3 (cr.), £821 6a 7d; drainage and sewerage account (cr.), £224- 6s Bd.— Adopted. The Reserves, Band Rotundk, and Fire Brigade Committee recommended that a five years' service medal be gsanted to Fireman Telfer.—Adopted. I

— The official organ of the English Institute of Journalists publishes a roll of honour showing that 1468 working journalists are on active service, including 65 from overseas. Fifty-five have been killed, 71 wounded, 11 reported missing', and 10 have been decorated for gallantry. Many women journalists are serving with the Red Cross.'
