PORT CHALMERS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Port Chalmers Borough Council held its usual meeting last evening; present—the Mayor (Mr T. Soollay), and Crs Powell, Williamson, Lightbourne, Love, lebister, Mawson, M'Lachlan, Anderson, and Fail. Two letters were received from the local Fire Brigade Committee in_ regard to the supply of material to the brigade, tie total cost of which would bo £19 os.—Agreed' to. Mr T. F. Martin (secretary of the Municipal Association) wrote stating that tho annual conference for this year had been postponed until next year on account of the unsettled stats of affairs. There were a considerable number of remits that had not yet passed into law, and these could be taken into consideration by Ministers if tho Government decided to introduce legislation on municipal matters. A full meeting of the Executive Comittee would be held _ before Parliament met to deal with the remits that had been sent in and any that might be sent in. If the council had any remits of an urgent nature, he hoped to receive thom before May I.—Left in the hands of the Mayor and town clerk. The Works Committee reported on various routine matters, and stated that the* contractors had started laying the Laing street sower. This would be pushed on as rapidly as possible to enable the house connections to bo made. —Adopted. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts , during the past j fortnight had anlounted to £392. 7s lid. Acoounts totalling £310 13s lid were recommended for payment. —Adopted.
