FIRE BRIGADE COMPETITIONS
The annual competitions of the Hillside Railway Fire Brigade were held in the Workshops yard on Saturday afternoon. Thero was a good attendance of visiting firemen and Workshops employees. Captain Price (South Dunedin) and Captain Souness (Caversham) acted as timekeepers, Lieutenant Wills (Caversham), Secretary Price (South Dunedin), Fireman Harris (St. Kilda) as 'judges and examiners, Fireman Cooke (St. Kilda) as starter, and Fireman Blagdon (Caversham) as field secretary. Results:-— Coiled Hose Event.—Fireman Gurr, 49 2-ssec, 1; Fireman Withey, 52 2-ssec, 2; Fireman Burgess, 53 3-ssec, 3. Nine competed. Night Alarm Event.—Fireman A. M'Kay, 48 3-ssec, 1; Firemen Gurr and A. Harrison, 48 4-ssec, 2; Fireman Burgess, 49 3-ssec, 3. Nine competed. Aggregate Gold Medal (presented! by the brigade).—Fireman H. Gurr. . Gold Medal (presented by Mr T. K. Sidey) to first in Sealed Handicap.—Fireman F. Burgess. Trophy (presented by _ the brigade) to second in Sealed Handicap.—Fireman A. Harrison.
