SUBMARINE ACTIVITY.
OFF NORTH AFRICAN COAST. BERLIN, November 19. (Reoeived Nov. 21, at 3.30 p.m.) Official,: A German submarine on November 5, off tlie North African coast, torpedoed and sank the British auxiliary cruiser Para (6322 tons), and on the 6th, in Solum Harbour, shedled and destroyed' two Anglo-Egyptian gunboats, the Prince Abbas and Abdul Menem, each of which were armed with two guns. The same submarine silenced' an armed British merchant steamer fire and captured her gun. LANDED AT MARSEILLES. PARIS, November 21. (Received Nov. 21, at 11 p.m.) • The CTews of the torpedoed steamers Californian and Sir Richard Awdry have landed at Marseilles. THE ANGLIA. CAPTAIN'S EVIDENCE. LONDON, November 20. (Received Nov. 21, at 4.45 p.m.) The captain of the Anglia, at the inquest on the victims, stated that the explosion occurred while the steamer was three miles off the shore. It blew the bridge to "smithereens." He himself was blown to the lower deck, and ran to the wireless room. He met the operator emerging with blood on his face, and 1 the operator stated that the instrument had been burst to pieces. Only tfie boats on the port side were available. He went to stop the engines, which were racing, and found that tht. gear had been destroyed. Many of the cot cases were minus arms, legs, and feet, and were unable to help themselves
