THE SHAKE MARKET

DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHA.NGE. During the early part of the past week business was very quiet on the Dunedin Stock Exchange, but it has improved to some extent latterly, and a moderate number of sales have been recorded daily. The dredging market has again been; quiet, and there has been little movement of any kind. Electrics have had ' buyers on several occasions at 3s, but sellers have held out for 3s 3d, and no business has resulted. The improved returns from the Olrig dredge have been responsible for a few 6igns of life in these shares, and there have been buyers of the preferential issue at lis, without sellers. The ordinary shares have been wanted at 9d, but there has been no better seller than one at Is 3d. A sale was recorded in Rise and Shines at £1 10s on Thursday, and prices for this line have ruled even with those of last week, buyers offering £1 10s, and sellers asking £1 Us 6d. There has been no public business transacted in mining stocks during the week, and this section of the market has been unusually quiet. Roxburgh Amalgamateds (paid) have again been inquired for on several occasions at 2s 6d, but no response has been forthcoming from sellers. Nokomai Hvdraulics have firmed to a slight extent, and there was a buyer on the market yesterday a,t 13s, but no seller. Mount Lyells have been on offer throughout the week at £1 4s, and Tasmanian Coppers at 5s 3d, but there have been no buyers in either case. Investment stocks have for the most part been even with last week's prices, and it is considered in some quarters that the Government loan has bad a sbghtly steadying effect on a number of lines that have gradually been improving for some months. The amount of business during the week has been small, and on the whole there is little of moment to record. National Banks have been even, with a fairly wide market between buyer and seller. Buyers of Bank of Australasias have hardened slightly, and are now quoted at about £111 7s, without, however, disclosing any sellers. Bank :f New Zealands have failed to show any movement durinsr the week, and there have been sellers of Union Banks at £52, without buyers. Westport Coals have maintained their recent firmness, and some business has been passing in these shares in the neighbourhood of £1 83 9d. Dominion Rubbers have also continued even with the rates obtaining for some time past, and -the business level of this line has been about £1, at which price sales have been recorded.
