MINING.
The master of the Red Jacks dredge reports a return of 7oz 4dwt for 129 hours' work. For a period of 24 hops the dredge had to contend with a quantity of silt. Quartz is still showing in the back of the stopo going north over the low level in the New Wuitaia mine, Kuaotunu. The manager reports that both stopes running south in this block arc yielding fair grade ore, the reef being from Sin to 12in wide. In the intermediate drive going north a reef 9in wide is coming in, and the ore is of good grade. Both stopes abovo this level are producing fair grade ore, the reef ranging from 9in to 15in in width. A big improvement has taken place in the drive on the reef north of the winze in "the Now Sylvia mine, Thames. The manager reports that the quartz has opened out to 34ft, arid is highly payable. The reef is well mineralised, and appears to be coming up from the floor and opening out as the drive is advanced. South of the winze two stopes have been in progress between the winze and No. 2 rise. Hie reef maintains its size and values. Two stopes are being driven south of the No. 2 rise. The reef is fairly well mineralised. The drive on the Norfolk reef has been advanced 18ft, but there is little change in the reef.
