RED CROSS WORK.
CONFERENCE OF SOdETIES. (Pra United Fbess Association.) WELLINGTON, November 10. A meeting' was held at Government House to-day at which there were present 60 delegates from the Order of St. John and various other societies throughout New Zealand engaged _in Red Cross work. The Governor presided. The following resolutions were unanimously agreed) to:—(1) " That the suggestion of the Order of St. John and the British Red Cross Society be adopted—viz., : that all ozganisations in New Zealand other ' than the Order of St. John be united under the title of the New Zealand branch of tho British Red Cross Society, keeping their individuality, if they so wish, by prefixing the name of their town or district before the words ' New Zealand,' and at the same time co-operating- with the_ Order of St. John where that organisation exists." (2) "Centres to manage details of organisation, utilising as far as possible the machinery at present existing." (3) J' That Mr A. H. Miles be asked to accept the position of » ; officer in charge of the central department in Wellington for the purpose of ascertaining—(a) what goods are required, (b) the method of despatch and packing, (o) how and where goods are required." (4) " That the oouncil for the central organisation consist of three members from each of the four military districts, together with tho officer in charge of the central department in Wellington and the Governor (as chairman)." (5) "That this conference approves cf the employment of paid secretarial, as- ■ distance for the officer in charge of the central department." (6) " That one or more ) "Representatives be appointed (unpaid) in Sgypt andi Malta." At".the conclusion Surgeon-general Henleison addressed the meeting, and made everal useful suggestions as regards work that should be done and the equipment necessary..
